One
of Chicago's longest running local TV ad campaigns and arguably one of its most
controversial is the series of Eagle Insurance spots. Intentionally produced
as campy with the look and feel of low budget, its run of over 9 years attests
to its success. It has been written about in various publications including
the Chicago Tribune, been a topic of
discussion
on talk radio, seen on the BBC in a program about American advertising, and
featured on The David Letterman Show in a bit on local TV ads. It can be seen
daily on Chicago television, most frequently on the morning talk shows. The
trilogy of commercials, one of which features nationally syndicated shock jock
Mancow Muller, can be seen daily on many of Chicago's local television stations.
A fourth commercial, produced in 2001 helped jump start Eagle's latest venture,
Eagle Home Loans. In April, 2002, the spots won the "Fool of the Year Award"
at the grand opening of the Noble Fools Theatre new $14 million facility located
in downtown Chicago's theater district.
